3D Terrain

Terms of Service

Last updated: 7 November 2026

These terms govern your use of the 3D Terrain browser application and website at 3dterrain.cloud (“the service”). By using the service or buying a pass you accept them.

1. What the service is

3D Terrain is a browser tool that renders terrain maps and 3D relief models from public elevation and map data. Rendering happens on your own device; the service does not store your maps, annotations or exports on its servers. There are no user accounts.

No generative AI, no TTS. The service does not use generative-AI models of any kind — no text, image, video or speech generation, and no text-to-speech features. Every map is a deterministic render of open elevation and map data (sources listed in section 6). The only media element beyond the data layers is the soundtrack of the optional 30-second video export: a fixed stock music track by Mixkit, bundled with the app as-is — it is not AI-generated speech or music, and there is no voice or narration feature.

2. Time passes and billing

Exploring the app is free. Exporting images, models, heightmaps, textures and videos requires an active time pass. Three passes are offered: 1 day ($9.99), 7 days ($19.99) and 30 days ($29.99).

3. Refunds

If a pass does not work for you, contact us within 14 days of purchase through the feedback page and we will make it right — up to and including a full refund of the pass price. Refunds are processed by Waffo to the original payment method. Passes shown to have been used extensively may be refunded at our discretion.

4. Acceptable use

You may use exports — including commercially — for maps, prints, games, teaching, editorial work and similar purposes, subject to the data attribution requirements listed on each export and on the about page. You may not resell the service itself, automate or script access to the app or its data endpoints, attempt to bypass the pass system, or use the service where maps of that region are subject to local publication restrictions (for example official approval-number requirements in some jurisdictions).

5. Content standards for annotations and shared maps

While maps themselves are generated from data, the text and marks you add — titles, subtitles, annotations, labels, notes and tables — become part of share links that other people can open. That user-generated content must follow the standards below.

The following are strictly prohibited:

6. Enforcement, reporting and review

Enforcement. Content that violates section 5 is removed from circulation: offending share links are deactivated server-side so they stop opening, and the associated pass may be terminated immediately without refund where the violation is wilful or severe (in particular anything touching child safety). Repeat violations lead to permanent blocking of related passes and tickets.

Reporting. Anyone — not just pass holders — can report a shared map through the feedback page, including the share-link URL and a short description. Reports about child safety should be marked clearly as such; we also accept reports from child-protection hotlines and law enforcement directly.

Review process. Reports are reviewed by the operator, normally within two business days (child-safety reports immediately). If a report is upheld, the share link is deactivated and the responsible pass is actioned as above. If a report is mistaken, the link stays live and nothing happens to the pass — reports are not punished. We keep enough of a record (link reference, decision, date) to handle appeals and repeat-offence checks; no full content archive is retained.

7. Data sources and attribution

The service builds on open data: elevation from AWS Terrain Tiles (SRTM, NED and other national programs); boundaries from geoBoundaries (ODbL); place names from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0); water from Natural Earth (public domain); buildings and roads from Overture Maps (ODbL, © OpenStreetMap contributors); imagery from Esri and contributors. Attribution lines embedded in exports must stay intact when you publish derived images or models.

8. No warranty

The service is provided “as is”. Elevation and map data are approximations and are not survey-grade; do not use the service for navigation, engineering, legal boundaries or any safety-critical purpose. Availability may change as upstream data sources change. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for your current pass.

9. Changes

We may change these terms; material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above. Continued use after a change means acceptance. If you hold an active pass and a change materially reduces what your pass includes, you may request a pro-rata refund through the feedback page.

10. Contact

Questions, disputes and refund requests: use the feedback page. Payment and receipt questions can also be directed to Waffo support via the link in your receipt email.
